  7. By Allen Voivod Star Wars™, one of the most popular sagas in cinematic history, immediately flew into the hearts of its fans. Decades and many iconic starships later, Hot Wheels is bringing these flying machines to the collector as originally conceptualized by George Lucas and designer Colin Cantwell. Our Star Wars™ Original Concept Starships™ Series features these five surprising designs. How many of them will you recognize? Concept Millennium Falcon™ This original concept had to be scrapped due to the premiere of the TV series Space 1999 before the release of Star Wars™, which had a ship with a similar look called the Eagle. The cockpit of the original Millennium Falcon™ remained the same, but other than that, the ship took on an entirely new and unique form! [attachment=6757:name] [attachment=6758:name] [attachment=6759:name] Concept TIE Fighter™ With its roaring engine inspired by WW2 Super Dive-Bombers, the TIE Fighter™ design was influenced from paintings by artist John Beckey. Lucas and Cantwell had to make sure this ship looked different from the good guys, opting for a completely different shape. [attachment=6760:name] [attachment=6761:name] [attachment=6762:name] Concept X-wing Fighter™ One of the most lethal ships in the Rebel fleet, the X-wing Fighter™ body was inspired by a pub dart. The wings on the cinematic versions are lower due to a malfunctioning wing on one of the X-wing models. The partially open wings resonated with the designers and took on the ship’s final look! [attachment=6763:name] [attachment=6764:name] [attachment=6765:name] Concept Star Destroyer™ The Empire’s Star Destroyer™ is perhaps one of the most important ships in their arsenal. The unique shape is derived from century-old Dreadnought Battleships and, wait for it … a paper airplane. This random combination created a lethal piece of machinery for galactic warfare! [attachment=6766:name] [attachment=6767:name] [attachment=6768:name] Concept Landspeeder™ This ground transportation vehicle came from various ideas and drawings George Lucas had seen over time. Despite this not being a fighting vehicle, without the Landspeeder™, Luke Skywalker™ would have never been able to raise the money to fly to Alderaan™ and become the hero we all know and love [attachment=6769:name] [attachment=6770:name] [attachment=6771:name] All five of these Starships™ are newly tooled versions. The first mix should be on the pegs already, and the second mix is scheduled to arrive out of hyperspace in August. Checklist: Mix 1 (June 2018) Prototype Millennium Falcon™ (First appearance!) Prototype TIE Fighter™ (First appearance!) Prototype X-wing Fighter™(First appearance!) Mix 2 (August 2018) Prototype Landspeeder™ (First appearance!) 11. By Gary Barnum You couldn’t have picked a better year than the Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary to join the Red Line Club. Expect more RLC Exclusive items than ever. Let’s reveal our plans! We started the 2018 Red Line Club off right with one of the most celebrated castings of recent years for the Membership Car: the Datsun Bluebird 510 with opening hood and neo-classic tires! Worth the price of admission right there, but it’s just the tip of the red-hot iceberg. We followed that with the enormously successful five-piece 2017 Car Culture Premium Box Set. One car from each of the 2017 segments—not released at retail!—made this an absolute must-have for the die-hard die-cast collector. Up next is one of the most groundbreaking—and heartwarming—plans for this year. These will be hard to come by, but our Mattel Model Shop Certified 3D Printed Prototypes will have your engines revved up. We’ve never done anything like this, and we’ve got three of them lined up for you this year: the Custom Camaro (with opening hood), the new Volkswagen T1 Rockster from Phil Riehlman, and an all-new truck design from “Mr. Hot Wheels” himself, Larry Wood. Watch for all three offers this year. Click here for more info. Volkswagen T1 Rockster Custom Camaro Also on deck is this year’s RLC sELECTIONs edition, which you helped us create by casting votes on our Message Boards. Check out the options that appeared on the Competition Chart. In the end, voters selected the Custom '72 Datsun 240Z in Spectraflame Race Team Blue with Real Riders 6-spoke wheels.. It’s always a tough decision, but you know the final product will be something special. Another RLC Exclusive you’ll be seeing is our new RLC Exclusive “Car of the Year”: the Custom Ford Econoline Pickup, with Gas Monkey Garage Hi-Po Hauler deco! We expect you to get carried away by this sweet piece, so we’re starting the hype now. Custom Ford Econoline Pickup Following tradition, we’ll wrap up the year with a Hot Wheels RLC Holiday Edition. But you’ll have to wait until later for us to unwrap that one. And who knows? There may even be another RLC Exclusive (after all, it is the HW 50th Anniversary…). But we’ve got to save some surprises, right? So get ready for a year of Red Line Club Rewards! Because, oh, yeah, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to rack up those Points! Thanks for joining us. 2019 Car Culture Mix 1: Gulf Racing!

By Gary Barnum The Gulf Racing livery launched into pop culture icon status with numerous victories beginning in the 1960s. That powder blue and orange deco really works magic on Hot Wheels, too. With a Gulf Racing collection launching our 2019 Car Culture series, we imagine what some of our best castings would look like in that familiar-but-thrilling color combination. And one of these cars actually was a Gulf Racing vehicle! (Hint: It's the McLaren.) Our Hot Wheels Car Culture series editions feature full-metal castings and Real Riders wheels. Every collection in the series will have your pulse pounding with the concept of roaring engines, the smell of fuel, and that moment when a speeding car passes by in a blur! The Gulf Racing collection will be widely available this December. Auto Series at Walmart: Detroit Muscle!

By Gary Barnum Around the turn of the century (1900, not 2000), the American automotive industry began to shoot cars out of Detroit like Hot Wheels out of a track launcher. But it would be years before the real power emerged: muscle cars. We rev our engines in their honor with this Detroit Muscle collection. Some of the finest muscle money could buy emerged from the mid '60s to the early '70s. Today, these cars are as collectible as their toy counterparts. But it's easier on the bank account to grab our 1:64 scale editions! Whatever you do, don't overlook the jaw-dropping packaging for these little powerhouses. It's as worthy of displaying as the cars themselves. You'll find 'em on display at Walmart. Take these 12 rides out for a night spin — or into any dark situation — and watch as they shine. It's one of the best ways for them all to find their way into your collection! Take note: Some of these cars will be "less visible," so be sure to look a little harder for the entire set.
